Solange will be making her way to Saturday Night Live next week, in her first-ever appearance on the show, as musical guest.
She’ll hit the “SNL” stage to perform two songs from her chart-topping album, A Seat at the Table – which nabbed the songstress her first No. 1 album earlier this month.
Solange‘s infectious jam, “Cranes in the Sky,” from her No. 1 album, A Seat at the Table, gets an added opening verse from Common.
“Every once and a few years, there are certain songs that come out and have the sound of forever. “Cranes in the Sky” is that song for me,” Common told The FADER via email. “Every time I listened to it, I keep wanting to hear it again and again. I started mumbling some words to it and then decided I want to write a verse. This is an un official remix simply inspired by the love of art.”
Solange is celebrating her first No. 1 as her latest album, A Seat at the Table, takes the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
According to Billboard, A Seat at the Table debuted with 72,000 units earned in the week ending Oct. 6 (according to Nielsen Music). 46,000 of that sum were in traditional album sales, another 3,000 in track equivalent album units, and 24,000 were in streaming equivalent album units. She beat out Bon Iver’s 22, A Million – which earned 71,000 units (58,000 in traditional album sales).
On the heels of the release of her dope new album, A Seat at the Table, Solange unloads the visuals for two songs from the LP – “Don’t Touch My Hair” and “Cranes in the Sky.”
“Both visuals are nothing short of the musician’s unrivaled reputation for aesthetically pleasing imagery,” it reads on Solo’s Saint Heron website. “From the first few seconds of each video to the fade out, it’s more than obvious that Solange poured every inch of her being into this project.”
Just a few days after announcing her new album, A Seat at the Table, Solange delivers. The 21-track LP features appearances from Kelly Rowland, Lil Wayne, The-Dream, Tweet and Q-Tip – to name a few.
The songstress calls it “a project on identity, empowerment, independence, grief, and healing,” and says that it’s her “most proud body of work.” She definitely did her thing.
After revealing that she’d wrapped up her new album as she celebrated her 30th birthday in June, Solange has announced the LP’s title and release date.
Solo’s album is entitled A Seat at the Table – and there’s good news for fans as the wait for its arrival is almost over, with Friday (Sept. 30th) being set as the date for its digital realease.
Solange made headlines over the weekend, after taking to Twitter to share an unpleasant experience that she went through while attending a Kraftwerk concert in New Orleans with her husband, Alan Ferguson, son Juelz and his friend.
After tweeting about the incident, Solo published a piece on her Saint Heron website that not only gave additional insight on what happened at the concert, but also got real about other encounters which she used to explain why black women don’t feel safe in “white spaces.”
Solange is starring in Michael Kors first-ever street style campaign. The singer and style maven, along with the brand, has released images from the campaign which show her rockin’ a faux fur green jacket paired with a matching neck tie blouse, black leather culottes, and white sneakers.
“Solange is strong and passionate and not afraid to share her opinion with the world — and that type of confidence always makes an impact,” Kors tells Billboard. “She’s a true trendsetter. I love how she takes some of our pieces and makes them her own.”
