Sevyn Streeter was scheduled to sing the national anthem at the Philadelphia 76ers season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder Wednesday night, but says her performance was canceled due to her “We Matter” jersey.

In an interview with The Associated Press late Wednesday, Sevyn said she was told she would not sing, just minutes before her performance.

Colin Kaepernick made headlines over the weekend, after refusing not to stand up during the national anthem. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback remained seated as the anthem played at Friday’s game at Levi’s Stadium, and he explained that it is a protest of how African Americans are treated in America.

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” he told NFL Media in an exclusive post-game interview. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way.
