Trey Songz was part of this year’s ESSENCE Festival lineup. While in New Orleans over the weekend, the “Slow Motion” singer opened up to the publication about his love for black women.
“I was raised by black women,” he said. “I love black women. I didn’t have a male figure in my life; I had my mother, all my aunties. The strength of them gave me a certain strength.”

Inside the yoga and health mag, the 43-year-old beauty explains the effect that love has on her: “My medicine is being in love you know, I’m in love,” she says. “And when I’m in love I glow, and my face is happy, and my heart is light and happy. And my children are happy.”

“I feel like sometimes you can be so private and so guarded, you prevent yourself from really discovering yourself or things period.
